Throughout the past couple of weeks, Epic Games has been dropping hints as to what changes will be coming to Fortnite with the Season 6 update. At the tail end of Season 5, a mysterious purple cube appeared, which migrated across the map, ultimately plunging into Loot Lake. While this odd turn of events had fans wondering what they would see in the new season, their questions were finally answered when Season 6 dropped.
Titled Darkness Rises, the new update greeted players with a cinematic cutscene when opening the game. In this scene, the mysterious purple cube jettisoned into the sky, taking Loot Lake’s island with it. Now, the island hangs in the air, surrounded by a vortex that foists players into the sky. However, an updated Loot Lake wasn’t the only change that came with the new update. Players can expect new changes in the game’s map, cosmetics, and gameplay.
As for the map, players can now take to the sky at the levitating Loot Lake. Moreover, the map now has a host of corn fields, an ominous storm, and a haunted house. These spooky new changes to the map reign in the fall season with a decidedly Halloween theme.
Alongside the map, Fortnite celebrates the season through a host of new cosmetics. The new battle past is loaded with classic Halloween costumes, such as a cowgirl, werewolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack-O’- Lantern, and vampire. Alongside these fall inspired skins, players can now bring a pet along for the ride. These companions don’t offer any in-game advantage, but instead serve as a comical relief by reacting to the game’s events.
The new season also brought changes to the game’s weapons system. Several items have been removed, including Bouncer Traps and Remote Explosives. While a few items have been removed from the game, players can expect to see a new consumable in the form of Shadow Stones, which can grant invisibility and increased mobility.
With each new season, Epic Games implements changes to the game’s inventory that not only change its appearance, but also its playstyle. While it is unsure how the metagame will change with the new update, it is sure to shake things up.
