Ever since the Switch was released, Nintendo has been porting games from the Wii U’s surprisingly vast library of first party gems. The one game that fans have clamored for more than any other game was Super Mario Maker, a Wii U exclusive that allowed players to make their own Mario levels. This past February Nintendo came to the rescue and announced that Super Mario Maker will be headed to the Switch, yet rather than simply re-release the same game on a new console the developer decided to go all out and create a brand-new sequel! Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about Super Mario Maker 2.
New Features
With Nintendo EPD heading the development, Super Mario Maker 2 (SMM2) is set to feature dozens of changes from the original, the biggest of which is an actual Story Mode which includes 100+ Nintendo-developed Mario levels for the game. In the original Mario Maker, when players were making a level they were given options as to which game style and theme they wanted their level to take place, and it was announced that SMM2 will feature a brand new game style, Super Mario 3D World, as well as new themes such as forest and snow. In the new game style, players will be able to utilize Cat Mario from the aforementioned Super Mario 3D World games as well as a slew of new items to use in the Level Editor.
Multiplayer
Not only does SMM2 have new features, it also local co-op and online multiplayer. However, Nintendo recently confirmed that it is not possible to play online multiplayer with friends, Instead, you can only play with other players online. Despite this, the game does include local co-op for both playing levels and making levels which means that all you need to do is pass a joy-con over and a friend can start making brand new levels with you.
If this sounds even remotely interesting to you then you’re in luck, Super Mario Maker 2 will be available to play THIS Friday exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
