Edge of Eternity Coming to Steam Early Access This November

Midgar Studio has announced its upcoming game, Edge of Eternity will be releasing on Steam Early Access on November 29. Alongside the Early Access release, Midgar Studio is also releasing a modkit for the game. No specific details have been revealed about what this version of the game will come with. However, there was an announcement trailer you can check out below. It teases a little bit of the story and shows some gameplay footage.

Edge of Eternity is a JRPG that is a modernisation of classic games. Midgar Studio are bringing their A-game, as it will be an open world, turn-based RPG. Also, Yasunori Mitsuda (of Chrono Trigger fame) will be composing the music for this title. That is a huge deal for the development team as he is one of the top composers in the world of JRPGs. It’s certainly an exciting prospect as Edge of Eternity wants to showcase what made older Japanese games so special. That being said, the key will be what new elements the developers can bring to the scene. What will set this game apart from Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII?

Going to Early Access is a good idea for the long-term. It will help secure fan feedback and let the community see how the game is developing. Already the developers have shown initiative and have teased the prospect of adding voice acting into the game. If the extra revenue from Early Access can help them realise their vision and make an awesome game, then it’s the perfect business decision.

JRPGs have waned in recent years and haven’t been as prominent. Every now and then you see a great game like Persona 5 or Valkyria Chronicles, but quality releases are few and far between. Hopefully, Edge of Eternity can deliver a great experience and re-ignite the flames of an epic JRPG movement. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Regardless of what happens, this is one to keep an eye on if you have even a passing interest in the genre.

Edge of Eternity’s full release is planned for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
