E3 2021: Moo Lander Is All About Getting Milk From Alien Cows
Milk is everything in Moo Lander and you’ll have to fight a planet full of alien cows to get it. Coming from indie developer The Sixth Hammer, Moo Lander is a 2D adventure platformer that has a truly bizarre premise, but looks to be a really great time.
In the world of Moo Lander, milk is one of the most powerful resources in the galaxy. After your planet loses their milk, you’re sent to find a device that’s able to create unlimited amounts of it in order to save your home. Your journey brings you to a planet filled with powerful cows that you’ll have to defeat in order to complete your mission of obtaining the milk you need.
With an art style reminiscent of Ori and the Blind Forest, the game takes inspiration from Metroidvanias with environmental puzzles for you to solve and abilities that you unlock as you progress that open up new areas for exploration. Unlike in your typical Metroidvania, you don’t travel on foot in Moo Lander, but instead fly around in your ship. Your ship is not just your home, but also your friend. Throughout the game your relationship with it will develop, revealing more about the story and your character.
Combat in Moo Lander is also fast-paced, requiring you to stay alert and think on your toes. Every enemy fights differently, so you’ll have to stay one step ahead of them in order to survive. This is especially true when it comes to the fighting the cows due to their special Cow AI, making their encounters “the ultimate tests” of all the skills you’ve learned.
While the main story is single-player there is a multiplayer mode. Up to four players can get together locally and play together in a variety of PvE and PvP modes. And yes, you can play as the cows in multiplayer. I haven’t gotten a chance to play the game myself, but watching the game’s trailer and reading about it has made this the first game of E3 2021 that I’ll be keeping my eye on. Moo Lander is set to come out in Spring 2022 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
