E3 2021: Mario Party Superstars Announced

Nintendo has announced a new Mario Party game coming to the Switch. Revealed during their E3 Nintendo Direct, Mario Party Superstars is a collection of past mini-games from the series and is set to release later this year on October 29.

Mario Party Superstars brings together five of the boards from the N64 Mario Party games and 100 mini-games from the N64 and GameCube entries for you to play. All of the mini-games can be played with button controls, so all controller options are able to be used with the game. The Mario Party series is known for being a fun game to play with friends locally in the same room and Superstars is no different. It supports local play on the same system, local wireless play, and online play in all game modes.

One major quality of life feature that will make multiplayer matches more enjoyable is the fact that the game will save your progress during a match in board game mode. This happens after every turn, meaning that if your group wants to stop playing for a bit and take a break, you all can do that and then pick back up where you all left off. It’s a feature that’s perfect for Mario Party Superstars given the portable nature of the Switch and how it’s a great system for playing games quickly in between other tasks such as during a lunch break. With the classic boards and mini-games coming back, Superstars seems like it’ll be a game that satisfies many fans.

Aside from Mario Party Superstars, Nintendo also made some other big announcements. At the start of the show, Kazuya from Tekken was revealed to be the next fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Metroid fans are getting new 2D entry in the series this year called Metroid Dread. And although we didn’t get a name for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we did get a brand new look at the game and 2022 release window.
