E3 2021: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Revealed, Coming 2022

Ubisoft has finally revealed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, coming in 2022. The long in development title is being developed by Massive Entertainment (The Division series) in collaboration with Disney and Lightstorm Entertainment, and is set to release exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, and Luna. It will also be using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop Engine, the same one that’s used in The Division.

Closing out today’s Ubisoft Forward event, the reveal trailer doesn’t have any actual gameplay, but it does give us glimpses of the game’s first-person perspective, as well as the world and many new creatures on Pandora. According to the trailer’s description on YouTube, Frontiers of Pandora is a standalone story that takes us across an unseen area of the planet called the Western Frontier. The RDA human military group from the movie return as the antagonists that your Na’vi protagonist will have to fight back against during your journey.

If you forgot about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora or didn’t know about its existence, you wouldn’t be completely in the wrong. The game was first announced back in 2017, but the team at Massive had been silent until todays reveal. With all these years out of the spotlight, it’s understandable that the game may not have been on many people’s radar. With a new 2022 release window, we’ll hopefully be seeing the game much more in the coming months.

This wasn’t the only big game shown off during today’s Ubisoft Forward event. The company kicked off their show with our first look at gameplay for Rainbow Six Extraction. It was originally announced as Rainbow Six Quarantine back in 2019, but has since undergone a name change due to the worldwide pandemic. Much like with Frontiers of Pandora, the return of Extraction was highly anticipated, so it’s great to finally get a look at both of these upcoming games.
