Deviation Games Partnering With PlayStation On New IP

During Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live today, Geoff Keighley announced a brand new game developer named Deviation Games. Founded by former Treyarch developers Jason Blundell and Dave Anthony, the studio is working in partnership with PlayStation to create a brand new original IP.

On the PlayStation Blog, the company posted a message speaking about the partnership. The team calls themselves “Deviators,” people that Blundell notes are “not only passionate about their own discipline, but they love others too.” As a new studio though, having strong backing helps makes things easier, which is why they decided to partner with PlayStation.

“That’s why it means so much that PlayStation is partnering with us on our first game. As you all know–having enjoyed the amazing PlayStation Studios portfolio–they know what it takes to make great games. To have a partner like that behind us makes the road ahead simply breathtaking.”

Deviation Games is early in development on their new IP, so they don’t have much to say about it right now, but they do have a strong idea in mind. “We’re drawing on what we’ve learned over our collective decades making games, but we’re also out to make something fresh and brimming with innovation like you’ve never experienced before … we’re setting out to make a huge, content-rich game with a focus on a lot of action and a lot of energy…”

While not much to go off of, it’s enough to be intrigued by whatever Deviation Games has in development. This is just the latest in a series of partnerships that PlayStation has entered with new up and coming developers. Back in April, the company announced that it was collaborating with Firewalk Studios to create brand new multiplayer game. Going a bit farther back to March, they announced a partnership with Jade Raymond’s new studio called Haven. With each of these new partnerships and their own first-party studios, it looks like PlayStation will have plenty of new games coming out of their doors in the coming years.
