Destiny 2 Will be on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5
On Thursday, developer Bungie announced that Destiny 2 will be on next-gen platforms, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. It’s the only bit of news we have right now, but Bungie has assured fans that more details will be coming.
The announcement came via Twitter, when Xbox revealed that hundreds of games are already in development for the next iteration of its console, which is projected to launch holiday 2020.
Sony has already announced that PS5 will include backward compatibility, stating that the “overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.” The company is also looking at games on a “title-by-title basis” to locate issues that will need to be fixed from the original software developers. Similarly, Xbox has been clear from the beginning about its commitment to compatibility, not only stating that the Xbox Series X will be able to play Xbox One titles, but the console will also be able to support “four generations of gaming”, including Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles.
So, technically Destiny fans would have been able to play Destiny 2 on next-gen hardware anyway, given the game just released in 2017 on current-gen consoles; but it sounds like Bungie will be developing content for the game that is actually designed to run natively on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
