Hideo Kojima’s game Death Stranding is one of the most anticipated games, right up there with The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077. Though none of these big titles have release dates, or even release windows we may have just gotten some idea of when to expect Death Stranding.
Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) is one of the stars of the upcoming game, and was recently on Dan Fogler’s 4d Xperience podcast discussing The Walking Dead and Death Stranding. When Fogler asked Reedus (around the 1:13:55 mark) when Death Stranding would be available, Reedus mentioned that he thinks the game could be releasing “early this coming year”. He then went on to say he has three more sessions of motion capture to wrap up in New York.
Reedus’ comments were originally spotted on Reddit.
Mind you, we should take this all with a grain of salt. Reedus’ motion capture might be finishing up soon, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of work still ahead of the development team at Kojima Productions to put the final touches on the game. And without any official word from Kojima himself or Sony, there still isn’t much to go on in terms of a definitive release date.
Release date aside, we have all been craving some more information about Kojima’s mysterious upcoming game. We’ve seen a handful of trailers, each one a bit more puzzling than the last, but without Death Stranding appearing at The Game Awards and with the recent news that Sony won’t be having PlayStation Experience, we still have very little to go on.
During the podcast, though, Reedus opened up a little more about Death Stranding, calling it a “brave game.” It’s not the kind of game where you “kill everyone in the room,” he said. “You’re building bridges from here to there.” He also revealed that his character has a “phobia of being touched”, and as you play the game, this phobia leaves. Though the game is complicated, Reedus explained the philsophy behind it is one that he believes everyone can get behind.
