Celeste Getting “Farewell” Levels in Early 2019

Indie darling Celeste is known for its tough-as-nails gameplay and fans of the game will have some additional challenges to conquer very soon.

In a tweet where game creator Matt Thorson announced that the game has sold over 500,000 copies during the year, he also revealed that some “farewell” levels are coming in early 2019 and that “they’re very hard.” Thorson does not specify if the levels will be paid DLC or added via a free update.

And in one final tease, Thorson also mentions that the new year will bring an announcement for his next project.

Celeste was one of 2018’s most wonderful success stories. The game launched in late-January and was instantly met with near-unanimous acclaim and currently sits at a 92 on Metacritic. Shortly after launch, Thorson told Destructoid that the game’s Nintendo Switch version was selling the best, though he didn’t provide a specific breakdown of sales across all platforms.

The game wracked up a considerable number of Game of the Year award nominations, which put it toe-to-toe with AAA behemoths like God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. It went on to win Best Independent Game at The Game Awards and the development team’s acceptance speech can be viewed below.

Celeste is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
