Following close to a week of reports that Cyberpunk 2077 ran terribly on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, developer CD Projekt Red has released a statement apologizing for the game’s poor performance.
“First of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have payed more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”
Continuing on, the team states that in addition to the already released updates for the game, they will be putting two big patches to help fix the issues that Cyberpunk 2077 has on consoles. The first patch will release in January, and the second will release in February. CD Projekt Red also asks players to give the game a chance, but encourages them to seek refunds for the game if they aren’t satisfied with how the game is performing for them.
This is the latest update in Cyberpunk 2077’s tumultuous launch. When reviews were released last week, they were only of the PC version, as no one was provided with console review codes. Once footage of the game was released on consoles, players were understandably disappointed and angered. The game ran terribly and was a far cry from what had been shown in previous footage. To make matters worse, CD Projekt’s joint-CEO Adam Kaciński had stated just a few weeks before release that the game’s performance was “surprisingly good” on base Xbox One and PS4.
Taken all together, it’s not a good look for the company to have withheld this information from consumers, and is sure to be a major stain on their reputation. While the game is sure to become more stable and less buggy as the game gets patched over time, this troubled launch is going to leave a cloud over it for quite some time.
