Call of Duty: Mobile Coming to iOS and Android Later This Year

First-person shooter mega series, Call of Duty, will soon take its explosive action and energetic multiplayer to the smallest screen with the announcement of Call of Duty: Mobile coming to iOS and Android later this year.

Activision has teamed up with Tencent whose Timi studio will be responsible for development of the game. Revealed at the Unity keynote at GDC 2019, the game will be free-to-play and draw inspiration from both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops sub-series, making for a package that takes ideas, modes and maps from throughout Call of Duty’s history. This includes popular competitive multiplayer modes Free-For-All and Search and Destroy as well as iconic maps Nuketown and Crash.

A brief trailer also promised the possibility of a zombie mode making an appearance. Beyond that, much of the PC and console gameplay experience appears to translate over to Call of Duty: Mobile with sniper rifles, barriers and air strikes all being shown off. The trailer promises ‘more to come’, with E3 2019 being a possible option for Activision to elaborate on the game’s features.

This game follows in the footsteps of other popular multiplayer franchises finding a place on mobile devises. In 2018, both PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite launched successful ports to iOS and Android. Although Call of Duty: Mobile is a new game taking ideas and locations from previous games in its series, it makes sense for Activision to enter the lucrative free-to-play market on mobile with their largest franchise.

Although no official release date for Call of Duty: Mobile has been revealed, players can sign up for a public beta at the game’s official website that will become available this summer.
