Blizzard Reveals “Multiple Diablo Projects Are in the Works”

Diablo fans haven’t had a whole lot to get excited about recently. Blizzard still provides minor updates for Diablo III in the form of seasons, but the game’s only expansion, Reaper of Souls, was released four years ago. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait very long to hear about what’s coming next.

In a video that was uploaded to the Diablo YouTube channel earlier today, Blizzard Community Manager Brandy Camel discussed the future of the series. The video can be viewed below:

Camel mentions that Diablo III will have themed seasons beginning with Season 14, but we’ve known that for a while. It’s what she says next that is infinitely more exciting:

We’d also like to let you know that the forges here at Blizzard are burning hot, and we have multiple Diablo projects in the works. Some of them are going to take longer than others, but we may have some things to show you later this year.

Fans of the series are already beginning to speculate as to what these “multiple Diablo projects” are. In my mind, there are two possibilities that seem more likely than the rest. The first is that Diablo III could be coming to Nintendo Switch. Eurogamer reported earlier in the year that a Switch port was in development, and to add fuel to the fire, Blizzard tweeted a short video of a Diablo night light being “switched” on and off:

The other is Diablo IV, or whatever Blizzard decides to call the next proper entry in the franchise. Last September, Blizzard stated that no Diablo announcements would be made at BlizzCon 2017, and that the studio was “hard at work on the future of Diablo and exploring what’s next for the franchise.”

We’ll probably hear about at least one of these Diablo projects at this year’s BlizzCon, which takes place on November 2-3 in Anaheim, California. Last year, Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth during the convention’s opening ceremony.
