The Best Announcements from Sony at Paris Games Week

After teasing that “E3 was only half the story“, Sony took the stage at Paris Games Week yesterday and dropped some major announcements. Some of them we were expecting, like a closer look at God of War 4 and the upcoming DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn. On the other hand, some were complete surprises, like the number of indie titles that were shown. In case you missed some of the news, or you were just too stunned by The Last of Us Part II trailer to comprehend anything else, here are some of our favorite announcements and trailers from Sony’s showcase.

1. Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human was first announced back in 2015, and yesterday it finally got a release window. Play as an android named Kara as she navigates the futuristic city of Detroit and changes the lives of those around her for better or worse. In a similar vein to Quantic Dream’s other games, Detroit is choice-based and will feature an ambitious amount of narrative branches as players make their way through the game. In the latest trailer, we see Kara looking after a young girl named Alice, as well as several ways one scene could play out.

2. Shadow of the Colossus

This was the talk of E3 2017 when it was revealed the game was being remade for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. The game was already nice on the PS2, but its updated 4K graphics, as seen in the cinematic and gameplay trailers, make it absolutely gorgeous. Shadow of the Colossus will be released on February 6, 2018.

3. Ghost of Tsushima

This new IP from Sucker Punch Productions was a pleasant surprise yesterday, seeing how the studio has been quiet since it released Infamous Second Son in 2014. Ghost of Tsushima is set in Tsushima, Japan during 1274, and players will assume the role of a Samurai who’s tasked with defending his home from the Mongol Empire. The trailer reveal at PGW 2017 offered a nice balance between high action and the quietly beautiful landscape of Tsushima, and it has us excited to see more. As of right now, there is no release date.

4. Monster Hunter: World

This game looks better every time it’s shown. Though not exclusive to PS4 consoles, PlayStation users will be getting a nice surprise when Monster Hunter: World releases next year, as they can play as Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Fans got a glimpse of Aloy during the last moments of the trailer, and she came in so fast, we had to do a double take. This is a crossover you don’t want to miss. The upcoming RPG is still in development by Capcom and will be released January 28, 2018. The beta starts on December 9th.

5. Concrete Genie

This is one to keep your eye on. Concrete Genie uniquely blends paint and vibrant color with a heartbreaking story about bullying. Ash is a teenager who escapes his troubles of his hometown by painting landscapes and creatures and bringing them to life. The puzzler looks like it has much to offer. Not only is it atmospheric with a great soundtrack to accompany it, but players may find several ways they relate to Ash as he finds a way to deal with bullies and bring his town back to life.

6. The Last of Us Part II

I’ll just leave this here:

Tori is originally from Rapture but now she lives in Chicago. She enjoys open world RPGs, a good narrative-driven game, and is probably the only person still watching The Walking Dead.
