WB Games and Turtle Rock Studios have announced Back 4 Blood via a press release on Turtle Rock’s website. It is described as an “original, premium title and marries the best of what made the co-op zombie shooter so successful with new features and state-of-the-art technology.” An FAQ for the game mentions that it will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but other platforms “aren’t out of the question.”
No screenshots were provided for Back 4 Blood, and it doesn’t even have a release window, but it seems pretty clear that Turtle Rock is positioning the game as the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series. Left 4 Dead 2 released way back in 2009 and it appears that Valve had little interest in making another installment, as the FAQ mentions that both “parties decided to move on.” The new title will feature a campaign, co-op, and PVP, just like the Left 4 Dead games did.
It remains to be seen when we’ll hear more about Back 4 Blood, but it seems likely that a full reveal could happen at E3, which starts on June 11 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
