On Wednesday morning, reddit user VapeThisBro leaked previously never before seen footage of a supposed new Harry Potter RPG game. This news came as a surprise to many Harry Potter fans, as neither Warner Bros. or J. K. Rowling herself have spoken about any upcoming video game aside from the already released mobile phone app: Harry Potter: A Hogwarts Mystery. The footage shows gameplay and scenery of Hogwarts and the forbidden forest. It also shows a character creator as well as a third person combat system.
True to internet culture, after VapeThisBro’s leak, the video spread like wildfire. Interestingly enough, all the leaked videos on YouTube were removed via copyright infringement from Warner Bros, implying that there is indeed a new Harry Potter RPG in the works. This was further solidified by a tweet from Lizo Mzimba, a British news journalist. His tweet read, “Am told this is from a yet to be announced RPG recently titled Harry Potter Magic Awakened.” He goes on to say that “other Potter games are also thought to be on the way.”
The last Harry Potter console game came out in 2011, with two supplementary offshoot titles two years later. It’s been a hot minute since the Potter Universe was last on a major console. Furthermore, there is no word on who exactly is producing this game. A few major names have been thrown about, such as British company Rocksteady and Utah’s Avalanche Software. However, there has been nothing conclusive. Could this new game be opening up a new generation of Harry Potter video games?
As of now, there is no official confirmation or date of release for this new Harry Potter title.
